 Enterprise Karate Students Win Big

Students from Conley’s Academy of Keichu-Do Martial Arts represented Enterprise at the 44th Battle of Atlanta Karate Championship on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel in Atlanta Ga.  Students from Mr. Conley’s academy have been participating at the Battle of Atlanta for the last five years and have always won in the Class A division traditional karate events. The winning started off with the two black belts: Senior black belt Rodelyn Mullins placed 1st in weapons, 2nd in forms and fighting. In the 14-15 year old junior girls black belt division: Joanie Haas won 1st in weapons, 2nd in forms and 4th in fighting. In the 15-17 year old brown belt boys division: Charles Zachary Crawford won 1st in weapons, 1st in forms and 1st in musical forms. Also in the brown belt division 13-14 year old, Cameron Harmon won 2nd in forms, 3rd in weapons and 3rd in fighting.  In the 14-15 year old intermediate belts division (orange, blue, green and purple): Moon Mullins won 2nd in weapons, 4th in forms and was injured with a broken collarbone during fighting.  In the 12-13 year old intermediate division Magnus Best won 2nd in forms and 1st in fighting.  In the 7-8 year old girls intermediate division Naomi Elizabeth Jacobi won 6th in forms and 3rd in fighting.  In the 6-7 year old intermediate division: Jeshua Jacobi won 1st in forms.  In the 10-11 year old boys beginner division: Gabriel Cruz won 1st in forms and 1st in fighting.   In the 8-9 year old boys beginner division: Xavier Cruz won 2nd in fighting and 3rd in forms, while Tyler Cotton Sherrer won 2nd in forms.  This division was the most competitive division with 22 competitors. Special congratulations to both Xavier Cruz and Tyler Cotton Sherrer for a job well done.  In the 6-7 year old beginners division: Jace Himes won 2nd in forms which was another competitive division; special congratulations to Jace Himes for his outstanding performance.  Parents were very proud of their children and are planning for next year’s Battle of Atlanta and more.  Some of the students will travel to Orlando, Fl for the US Open on July 13 and 14, 2012.

The students from Conley’s Academy have three more large tournaments this year to compete in: The US Open on 13 and 14 July 2012, In Orlando, FL.  The Sunshine Classic in Panama City, Fl on 11 August, 2012 and the Southern Region Open karate Tournament in Dothan, AL  November 3rd at the Dothan Civic Center.

Conley’s Keichu Do Academy brought home gold, silver, and bronze after showcasing their talent they have mastered through Master Conley’s expert teaching in Keichu-Do Karate.  Grandmaster Conley was very pleased with the outcome because this tournament was used as a preparation for the Battle of Atlanta which will be held in Atlanta, GA on 22 and 23 June, 2012.  The Keichu-Do academy has a great winning record in all tournaments.  The win’s started this time with Charles Zachary Crawford placing 2nd in weapons, 2nd in forms and 3rd in fighting in the brown and black belt division ages 16 and 17. In the orange and green belt division, ages 12 and 13, Moon Mullins placed 1st in weapons, 2nd in forms and 1st in fighting.  In the 6 and 7 year old  white and yellow belt division, Jace Himes placed 2nd in forms and 3rd in fighting, Also in the same division but 8 and 9 year old, Tyler Cotton Sherrer placed 1st in both forms and fighting, Coedy McCollough placed 2nd in forms, Xavier Cruz placed 3rd in forms and 2nd in fighting, Keichu students won the complete division.  In the white and yellow belt division ages 12-13 Gabriel Cruz placed 1st in forms and 4th fighting, and ages 14-15 Tyler Chase Johnson placed 2nd in forms and 1st in fighting.   In the orange and green belt division age 6 and 7 boys Jeshua Jacobi placed 2nd in forms and 1st in fighting.   In the girls division, Naomi Jacobi placed 1st in forms and 1st in fighting. In the black belt men and women division Rodelyn Mullins place 1st in forms and fighting.  Upcoming tournaments: Andalusia, 9 June,  Battle of Atlanta 22-23 June, U S Open 13-14 July, Orlando,FL Panama City 11 August, Dothan, November.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       



Students at Conley’s Academy of Keichu-Do start the year off big at the 9th Annual Northwest Florida’s Spring Martial Arts Championship in Crestview, FL on March 10th, 2012. Students from Conley’s Academy competed in the following four different karate categories:  Musical Kata, Open hand Kata- which is the performance of prearranged karate techniques, Fighting- light contact made between two opponents for effective and controlled punches and kicks, and weapons- arranged fighting moves using traditional weapons. Shihon Dai Conley was very pleased with the results of his students. A total of 20 trophies were brought home by the students; with ten 1st place trophies, seven 2nd place trophies, and 3 3rd place trophies.

In the Junior Advanced brown belt division (14-17 year old); Charles Zachary Crawford started off the wins by placing 1st in musical, 1st in weapons, and 1st in kata. In the girls 14-17 year old black belt division, Joanie Haas placed 1st in weapons, 2nd in kata and 2nd in fighting. In the green belt division 11-13 year old; Magnus Best placed 1st in fighting and 2nd in kata. In the 11-13 year old yellow belt division, first time competitor Gabriel Cruz placed 1st in kata. Tyler Cotton Sherrer placed 1st in the 9-10 year old yellow belt division. In the 7-8 year old yellow and orange belt division; Naomi Jacobi placed 1st in kata and fighting, while in the same division first competitors Coedy Layne McCollough placed 2nd in kata and fighting and Xavier Cruz placed 3rd in kata and fighting. In the 6 and under yellow and orange belt division; Jeshua Jacobi placed 1st in kata and 3rd in fighting and in the same division; Jace Himes placed 2nd in kata and fighting. Noticeable differences are found at tournaments when comparing Master Conley’s students to those of other schools.  Instructors from all over ask Shihon Dai Conley his teaching methods and style.  Master Conley describes his teaching techniques as very strict and confidence building.  His passion is for keeping the martial art tradition alive in the young people that he teaches.
